My Experience at the 1st Annual”Wooli Me” Natural Hair Expo

The 1st Annual Wooli Me Natural Hair Expo presented by Estelle for Humanity took place on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 11am to 8pm in the Museum of African American Art, located on the 3rd floor of MACY*S Baldwin Hills Plaza.  The event included a natural hair show, product demonstrations, celebrities, giveaways and presentations.  I attended this event for a few hous and I must say I was pleased with the event.  I walked away with a better understanding of what a truly natural lifestyle entails--it doesn't just stop with natural hair.

I think the most memorable experience for me was listening to Dr. Eve Allen's lecture about natural living and how to live a toxin-free life.  She spoke about how our beauty regimens such as nail polish, makeup, and hair/body products can make us sick.  She spoke about how to remain beautiful without relying on toxic products.  Needless to say, I learned a lot.  If you weren't able to attend the event, I recorded her presentation for all to watch and enjoy (coming soon).

I felt that the whole event was well organized, and the vendors had a lot to contribute to the whole experience.  To be honest, when I initially walked in, I thought I would only spend a few minutes to get the whole experience, an hour tops.  But as I made my way around talking with the vendors, asking questions, taking pictures, and listening to the presenters, I think I easily spent 3+ hours there--and I wish I could have spent more!

In the below pictures, I left comments and later I will post videos of what I was able to record during my time spent at the event.  Feel free to leave your own comments or questions!

  • I attended but missed her lecture (not sure if it was before I arrived or after I left) but I would have loved it! Can't wait til you post it so I can enjoy it. I wish I would have brought cash to purchase products but I did get a couple samples! Great post!
  • Hey Krissy, I will definitely be posting the videos... she must have spoke after you left because I remember waiting quite some time for them to get her set up. I read about those samples on your blog and wish I had gotten some! Thanks for checking out my review fellow L.A. natural hair blogger :-)
