Well, my October 2010 update didn't entail a length check but rather a style update. I wore twists and decided to refresh the twists using Jeri curl rollers the night before to create a 'messy' mass of coiled & wavy twists for my meeting that day. Enjoy!

I had the pleasure of styling Anita's natural/texturized hair in a straw set style. She wanted to try something new and given her length and texture of her hair I suggested a straw set. Her hair length ranged from 2" to 4" all around. The Straw Set hairstyle naturally fills in as the days progress which results in a slightly different look by the end of the week. Anita wanted the hair to fill in quickly, so she used a water-based hair moisturizer which helped revert her natural texture a bit and resulted in a low coiled fro.

On Monday, October 18, 2010 Willow released the official video to her new single "Whip My Hair" on BET's 106 & Park and Vevo. The single is soon to be released on iTunes for download. Willow, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith's only daughter, is found wearing a variety of interesting hairstyles which include braided individual hair extensions, braided large bantu knots, and a couple fro/weave-hawks in the mix. With the addition of some hot choreography and 90's fashion, Willow's first video was a viral hit! Willow offered the following quote about the meaning of her video, " 'Whip My Hair' means don't be afraid to be yourself," Smith explained, "and don't let anybody tell you that that's wrong. Because the best thing is you." (MTV News).

Twists are my favorite protective hairstyle that allows my hair to grow while giving combs, brushes, and my fingers (well, sometimes) a rest thus allowing the hair to quietly grow. I prefer twisting hair that has at least 3" growth. My sew in weave styles involve carefully cornrowing the natural hair and laying on continuous tracks of synthetic or human curly hair and sewing them onto the cornrows with care. I don't braid tight to avoid pulling of the hair follicles, but secure enough to provide the base I need for weaving.

As the weeks go by, I'll be posting more and more of some of the styles I've taken pictures of so more people know about what I do "on the side" ;-)
