The Skinny On Lupita Nyong’o’s Red Carpet Hair

Lupita Nyong’o turned eyes on the 2014 Golden Globes red carpet in her red Ralph Lauren off-the-shoulder caped gown yesterday. To compliment her dress, she wore an edgy, low-cut fade while spiking her hair at the top.

462309797Lupita’s hair stylist, Larry Sims, shared how he achieved the hairstyle.  According to Pret-A-Reporter, Sims explained “Everyone is always used to seeing her with a crop. The lines of the dress are so simple and chic; we wanted to add a side-part to complement the lines.” Smooth ‘N Shine Go Pro Curls Curl-Licious Mist was first used to refresh and reactivate the natural coils. Using a rattail comb, Sims used a rattail comb to part the hair, then combed her hair to each side. Smooth ‘N Shine Go Pro Curls Butter Bouncin’to was then applied to hydrate the hair, giving it a ‘moldable’ texture. Finally, got2b 2sexy Voluptuous Volume Hairspray was used to keep the hairstyle in place for the long evening.

What was’t exactly dished was how her hair was straightened for the spiked look, amongst a few other minor details. My best guess is that the hair was hot combed to straighten her hair strands.  It also looks like her deep part was widened by using hair clippers to shave the hair to expose some scalp along the length of the part, hence a wider part. And finally, clippers were used to trim her hairline for that clean look.
